(Biography 2010)

Jillian started her performing career as a ballerina. In 2002 a switch to contemporary dance lead her to perform with companies such as Dance Collective of Boston and Impulse Dance in America and later as a freelancer back in New Zealand.

An advertisement for dancers wanting to train in aerial arts caught her attention and before she knew it she had run away with the circus, performing in small local festivals. In 2008, she met Emily Buttle and fell in love with Empress Stiltdance’s characters. While learning the administrative side as bookings manager in Wellington, she moon-lighted in stilt walking. Within six months she was wobbling around at her first gig!

Two years later she’s been honoured to perform with Empress all over New Zealand and abroad and this year has moved to Western Australia to start Empress Perth. She’s excited to be bringing Empress’s colour and vibrancy to this part of the world.
